General surgery is a surgical specialization with focus area on alimentary canal and abdominal area that include the internal organs like the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine liver, pancreas, gall bladder, appendix, bile ducts and the thyroid glands. It also deals with interventional procedures for diseases involving the skin, breast, soft tissue trauma, peripheral artery diseases and hernias.

Most commonly used procedures include Endoscopic procedures like gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
